Not sure what to do on your Saturday nights?
Second Saturday, of course! This free event takes place in the heart of Tucson, downtown. There is plenty of good food and music to enjoy while you are there. Parking is usually free after 6 p.m. at the meter parkings and if you don’t like walking, there is a Sun Link streetcar that can take you through downtown. You won’t get bored during Second Saturday because there is always something to do. There is music, food and activities, you name it, it’s there.
Second Saturday usually starts around 5:30 p.m. and goes to 10:30 p.m. during summer and in the winter it starts at 2 p.m. also ends at the same time as the summer hours. It’s a great street fair to take family and friends.
This month I was able to attend and there was a huge variety of food to choose from: Mexican, Canadian, Chinese, Vietnamese and a lot more. I ate from a Canadian food truck called Zany Beaver Food. I ordered the Traditional Poutine which are hand-cut fries, cheese curds and I added chicken to it, but to top it all off they poured gravy on it. This sometimes coincided with Tucson Meet Yourself.
Freshman Vivian Marquez, who was also at Second Saturday said, “I love going to the event every month. There’s always something to do and I never get bored!”
There are plenty of arts and crafts and pieces of artwork to view, too. The pieces of artwork that are shown come from Tucson Art Museum, Old Town Pot Shop, Tolteca Tlacuilo and much more.
This weekend as I walked around, there were children participating in the Ben’s Bells project. Beads are given to people as small acts of kindness to pass on to someone else so that the tradition isn’t lost.
My favorite thing to do at Second Saturdays is always trying something different to eat and walking around with friends and family. It always ends up being a great time.
