It is another great time to be a Foothills Falcon! Julie Walters, boys varsity soccer coach here at Catalina Foothills High School, won her 300th game against Canyon Del Oro High School on January 14 of this year.
Coach Walters has been in the Foothills soccer program for 21 years and has had a great run. “My 300 wins represents my career at this school with this program and our varsity team here, and we didn’t go varsity until 1994/1995,” Walters commented.
To Coach Walters, her 300 wins isn’t just about how she has had the opportunity to coach a winning program for so long; it’s more about the program itself.
”Well, you know it’s, to me, symbolic that the the program has grown and established itself and if you look at it over time its really not that many wins in a season. But f you know what it takes to build a program, because we didn’t start out winning 10 games a season, it takes a lot to get a consistent performance like that and it makes me really proud to have reached this point,” said Walters.
Coach Walters believes that all of her past teams and players have contributed to this amazing achievement. “Each team in its own way is unique and different, including our current team. In fact, our team is the only varsity soccer team that has been able to secure two wins at two different tournaments in a season. We had a pretty amazing run this season,” said Walters.
Another great season has come to an end, as well as Walters’ career as a soccer coach. “It’s going to be really hard to give up, but I am proud of what I have created,” said Walters. Walters says she will continue coming to games and supporting her team while being a stay-at-home mom with her toddler daughter.
It may be her last year, but Coach Julie Walters will forever be a Foothills Falcon!
