Untitled

By Dakota Garcia

Picture a room with only four walls

No light, no sounds, nothing at all

Darkness surrounds, cool and black,

But a presence remains, locked in the back

Alone and afraid, with no one to share

The feelings of pain, fear, and despair

‘Til one day, it comes, another unknown

With fears inside, to each other they loan

Time goes on inside the room,

The two together, through and through

Slowly, however, the two grew apart,

And now the presence was back at the start

Hurt and lost, it wailed in pain

To no one at all, without refrain

Bursts of red and showers of blue,

Erupted from it, and lit up the room

‘Twas but a brief flash and the darkness returned

But in the mind of the presence another image burned

Black as the room yet bright as the sun,

In the corner of the room lay another one

It had no voice for it to share itself,

But the connection was felt just as well

Together, in silence, they began anew

One and one, together as two

For ages the beings enjoyed their lives

No words, no pains, and on they thrived

The mute one followed its urge to explore,

As though one day it’d find a forgotten shore

Or the streets of a city, the water of a pond

It continually ventured towards the beyond

Against the warnings of the presence still

It yearned to follow its own free will

And at last, the darkness swallowed it whole

The loss, it seems, had taken its toll

So the lone being remained, trying not to show

The feelings that soon overflowed

Red and blue, blue and red

Merely dripped to the floor and pooled instead

No fireworks of brilliant life

Only a river of pain and eternal life

Only a river of pain and eternal strife

The being, lay empty and cold,

Let the black abyss to take ahold

It really was just a room, with only four walls

No light, no life;

Nothing at all
